Woman wins prestigious humanitarian award in Spokane community service [Video]

Stephy Nobles-Beans worked as an educator, assistant pastor and more around Spokane.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Providence Health and Services awarded Stephy Nobles-Beans with the 2024 Sister Peter Claver Humanitarian Award.

The award recognizes people who show leadership and commitment to their community service. Noble-Beans, or “Mama Beans,” is the current associate chaplain for diversity, equity and inclusion in campus ministries at Whitworth University.

According to Providence, Noble-Beans has worked as an educator, assistant pastor, motivational speaker and author. Noble-Beans opened her doors to victims of abuse in 2005-2017.   

Seven other people were nominated for this award.

The award was named after Sister Peter Claver. She led Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center for 20 years and is best known for her humanitarian work in the region.
