Whitworth University professor and chaplain wins Sister Peter Claver Humanitarian Award [Video]

SPOKANE, Wash. – Stephy Nobles-Beans is the recipient of Providence’s 2024 Sister Peter Claver Humanitarian Award.

Beans is a chaplain for diversity, equity, and inclusion in campus ministries at Whitworth University. Stephy Nobles-Beans, or “Mama Beans” as she is called, is also an adjunct professor for the university, an educator, an assistant pastor, a motivational speaker, a leader, an author, a creator, and a friend to many.

Between 2009 and 2017, Nobles-Beans opened her home to 25 women and 28 children who had been victims of abuse. Her home became known as “Fields of Diamonds; House of Blessings” for women to use as a transition house.

The award recognizes individuals for their visionary leadership and unparalleled commitment to the people they serve.
