Ms Gibson said: “This is an issue that the House has to debate. We cannot allow it to be the case that WASPI women have won the battle but don’t get the spoils of war.

“There’ll be different views across the house as to what that compensation might look like, and that’s all part of the debate.

“But I think the principle for compensation has to be established, and it has to be established quickly, because the longer this report goes unanswered, the more despair is setting in.”

She pointed out that 270,000 WASPI pensioners have died since the campaign began with more dying every day without getting restitution.

She said that after the Post Office and infected blood scandals, there was a sense that “the little guy never wins and doesn’t get heard”.
