KOTA Cares: Black Hills Works provides opportunities for adults with disabilities [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Everyone deserves to reach their full potential.

On this week’s KOTA Cares, we highlight one Rapid City organization that rewrites the narrative of inclusion.

In 1958, parents of children with disabilities were faced with two choices: keep their kids at home with no access to social interaction, education, or work; or send them to an institution. This lack of options is what pushed the founding of Black Hills Works.

For 65 years, Black Hills Works has provided homes, employment, recreation, and social outlets for adults with disabilities.

“Black Hills Works supports nearly 600 people with disabilities in the Rapid City Area, helping them live, work, and play,” said Tamie Hopp, director of philanthropy at Black Hills Works.

Their mission is to create a community where everyone participates to achieve a life of full potential.
