CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The first two women were among three Mecklenburg County Detention Center inmates who became business owners today.
They graduated from a program called the Next Great 50, a business development course in partnership between Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and Peace 4 Poverty.
Next Great 50 is a program that helps inmates turn their dreams of entrepreneurship into reality, learning financial literacy and how to run a business.
Tekeya Robinson is an inmate at the detention center and today, she’s focused on turning over a new leaf. Her family was there as she graduated with a certificate of business existence.
She worked with the team at Peace for Poverty to develop a logo, website, and contact information. That was presented to her at the ceremony.
Her business is called Revolving Peace, LLC.
Sheriff Garry McFadden said they will continue working with her after her incarceration.
