Because you know what, on these projects, every construction worker has to eat. We can get into businesses that supports the construction industry and get really good contracts coming out of it. So we also negotiate what we call social procurement, asking these major contractors who are multi-billionaires to basically break down those contracts so that you can have small businesses, minority-owned businesses, black-owned businesses that can compete for those jobs. And on the Eglinton Crosstown project alone, over $8 million was actually spent in this way on local businesses and minority-owned businesses as a result of the community benefits agreement. And there are just so many projects that are happening across Canada, over $150 billion of taxpayer dollars being spent on projects all across Canada. If every single project has a requirement to have a certain percentage of their contracts broken down so that black and racialized peoples can actually compete for those contracts, we’re in a much better position.
