South Carolina tops Iowa to win National Championship [Video]

CLEVELAND, O.H. (FOX Carolina) – The No. 1 South Carolina women’s basketball team beat Iowa 87-75 to win the NCAA National Championship Sunday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, O.H.

The Gamecocks earned their third title in program history, all under Head Coach Dawn Staley, and completed their season with a perfect 38-0 record.

For South Carolina, freshman guard Tessa Johnson dropped a team-high and career-high 19 points on 7-11 shooting and 3-6 shooting from 3-point range.

The electrifying performance earned her a shoutout from LeBron James.

Also for the Gamecocks, All-American center Kamilla Cardoso went for 15 points and 17 rebounds, Te-Hina Paopao scored 14, Chloe Kitts added 11 and freshman MiLaysia Fulwiley scored 9 points including a huge first-quarter lift.

NCAA’s all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark finished with a game-high 30 points on 10-28 shooting along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Iowa.
