PEORIA (25News Now) – A graduation ceremony was held Friday for the PeoriaCorps ninth graduating class.
PeoriaCorps is under AmeriCorps National, and is a volunteer program in which adults get hands-on training in environmental beautification, environmental stewardship, and green landscaping.
Four participants were honored at the ceremony. Bradley Miller, Jessica Smith, Ashlin Thomas, and Dontay Watson completed their six months of infrastructure projects such as harvesting and maintaining native plants, removing debris and weeding.
“The work that they’re doing is ensuring that we have clean waterways and clean drinking water in the city of Peoria,” said Amelia Ohlrogge, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Generalist for the city. “Of course we know that the water is filtered, but they are working to kind of mitigate the effects of impervious areas, which are normal parts of urban areas.”
