Lincoln leaders say City is ahead of goal to increase affordable housing [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird provided an update Monday on Lincoln’s progress toward an affordable housing goal set by her administration to create 5,000 new or rehabbed units by 2030.

Since 2020, the City has reached 43% or 2,147 units of its 5,000-unit goal, according to a report released on Monday by the Urban Development Department.

“Affordable housing is fundamental to attracting and retaining workforce, supporting business expansion, growing our local economy, and building an equitable and inclusive city,” Mayor Gaylor Baird said. “We’re ahead of schedule on our goal to create 5,000 new or rehabilitated affordable housing units by 2030 because the City and our partners are committed to ensuring Lincoln offers a wide range of housing opportunities.”
