Kentucky Derby Festival hosts block party in Russell neighborhood | Derby 150 [Video]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Kentucky Derby Festival events are in full swing.

On Saturday, the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in the Russell neighborhood was transformed for its third annual block party.

The event was free and focuses on all the talent, personalities, and activities the community has to offer.

It celebrated derby-time traditions, vendors, food, and showcases minority-owned businesses.

“This is what it means to me to make sure the west end knows this is their party,” Stachelle Bussey, block party co-founder, said. “This is what Kentucky Derby Festival invested in and want them to have for our community. This is our block party, it means so much to the community to see this thing grows every year.”

There was also face-painting, 20 food trucks and outdoor activities. The block party is just one of 70 spring time Derby Festival events.
