Hoggard unveils banner for NC ESPNs Honor Roll for inclusion [Video]

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – School leaders unveiled a symbol of national recognition at Hoggard High School on Thursday, March 21.

The school received a national banner for being selected as North Carolina’s ESPN Honor Roll school for inclusion in September of 2023 for meeting 10 national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy and respect.

The school also has several unified teams that compete in sports that include track, kickball, bowling, and volleyball.

“It’s very prestigious. ESPN is a global sponsor of Special Olympics and they look for schools that are doing unique things and inclusive programming around unified sports and whole school engagement and really bringing the community, the school community together to support people with intellectual disabilities. So, for ESPN to shine a light here on Hoggard is a big deal.” President and CEO of Special Olympics North Carolina Keith Fishburne said.
