Attendees at the city of Columbia’s Commission on Human Rights meeting Saturday discussed a range of topics, including accessibility.
Attendees also talked about supporting underserved areas and creating welcoming environments for children in coeducational sports.
While numerous issues were brought up, many attendees stressed the importance of comfortable environments. City Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Administrator D’Andre Thompson spoke on the importance of comfortability.
“A lot of the issues are that we have a lot of spaces that people don’t feel comfortable,” Thompson said. “It was important for us to hear that from the public so that we know how to approach these type of community dialogues.”
Attendees’ feedback on various issues helps the commission move forward, commission member Stephanie Yoakum said.
