NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake is sounding the alarm about a concerning trend of people out on bond committing other violent crimes.
Drake said they’ve made three arrests over the past 10 days of people who were already awaiting trial for serious crimes. That’s on top of other repeat offenders that Drake said have officers overwhelmed.
“It’s unbelievable time and time again how this continues to happen,” Drake said. “I think the community begins to feel unsafe because it continues to let these people do harm over and over. Then the men and women of the police department also get discouraged because they keep rearresting the same people.”
Around 16% of people arrested for violent crimes in Nashville are rearrested while out on bail, Drake said. While he supports the right to a fair bond amount, Drake said judges need to set amounts that are …
