Braves host annual HBCU Classic in Gwinnett County [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Braves regular season baseball is less than a month away! The team is in Florida for spring training, but today fans got to see some baseball here in the metro!

The Braves hosted the annual HBCU Classic at Coolray Field, the home of the Braves AAA affiliate the Gwinnett Stripers.The double header featured Grambling State University and Florida A&M University, the alma maters of Braves Hall of Famers Ralph Garr and Bill Lucas.

But as much as the event was about celebrating history, it was also about bringing exposure to the college athletes.

Braves Director of Diversity Marketing Eugene Brooks said, “It allows all of us to bring about access and accessibility to the players for the scout.

Grambling State and Florida A&M split the double header. Florida A&M won the first game 2-1 and Grambling won the nightcap 3-2.
