One of the hurdles I faced as a black business owner was embracing and proudly displaying my black ownership outwardly. I remember hesitating as I added products to my website, wondering if too many black models would turn customers away. But really, why should I even worry about that?
In the beginning, our website had majority black models because, well, I’m black and so are most of my connections. And since resources were low, I had to work with what I had to work with. But you know what? I don’t think other businesses stress over this like I did.
Here’s the thing: all that fretting about being ‘too black’? Turns out, it didn’t matter one bit. Customers support you for your products and service, not your skin color. And if a few folks have a problem with that, they can take their business elsewhere.
