Annual living exhibit honoring Black History Month kicks off at Tulsa Fire Museum | News [Video]

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Fire Museum is once again hosting its annual Black History Month tribute and this year’s event will feature Sen. Kevin Matthews who served with Tulsa Fire for 25 years before retiring as the administrative fire chief.

Matthews is currently the chair of the Oklahoma Senate Democratic Minority Caucus, the entrepreneurship chair of the 100 Black Men of Tulsa, a charter member of the North Tulsa Rotary Club and was the founder and chair of the 1921 Race Massacre Centennial Commission that led to Greenwood Rising. He also continues to serve on a number of different local organizational boards.

This yearly event highlights Black firefighters who served the Tulsa community. 

Tulsa Fire Museum has interviewed relatives of the first Black Tulsa firefighters, the first Black female firefighter and other retired Black firefighters in recent years during this event.
