WS/FCS parents listen, share concerns about potential school re-zoning [Video]

Parents in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools are learning more about big changes that could be coming to the district, which would impact where their children go to school in the coming years.Thursday night at the Carl Russell Recreation Center, WS/FCS held its final in-person listening session for the Fostering Diverse Schools initiative, a two-year program made possible by a U.S. Department of Education grant for more than $940,000. District leaders are considering redrawing school boundaries to improve socio-economic diversity and make bus routes more efficient.Supporters say the boundaries haven’t changed in more than 30 years, and all children deserve a good education at a good school, no matter where they live.But critics — and there were many of them at this meeting — say one of the main reasons they live where they do is because they want their children to go to a certain school.No parents agreed to speak with …
