BANGOR–Two Maine women who served in different branches of the military during different decades have formed a bond unlike any other. Renee Gilmore is an Air Force veteran while 93-year-old Dolores Hainer is a former army nurse; both of them now volunteer with the Cole Land Transportation Museum’s “Interview a Veteran’ program.
“Renee is the one I was introduced to,” said Dolores Hainer. “It’s been about a month now, at the most, and I think I have known her forever. It’s reconnected me to the military.”
At 93-years-old, Dolores Hainer no longer drives. Losing that independence was not easy for this former army nurse.
