Virginia A.G. Miyares joins call for Costco to end DEI [Video]

FAIRFAX, Va. — Nineteen state attorneys general, including Virginia’s Jason Miyares, have signed a letter calling on Costco Wholesale to end what they describe as “unlawful discrimination” tied to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. The letter argues that Costco’s policies should align with President Donald Trump’s executive order.

The Virginia NAACP denounced Miyares’ stance on Monday, criticizing what it called his “Anti-DEI” policies.

Citing cases such as Students for Fair Admission v. Harvard and Shaw v. Reno, the attorneys general argue that any policy using racial classifications is discriminatory, while race-neutral approaches uphold the country’s founding principles.

The letter also criticizes Costco’s continued commitment to DEI, highlighting that the company’s board unanimously opposed a shareholder proposal to study the financial risks associated with these policies.
