The Idaho Board of Education passed a resolution banning all diversity, equity and inclusion offices across universities in the state.
MOSCOW, Idaho — Some University of Idaho students are worried about what their campus is going to look like coming back from holiday break.
“The emotions, the frustration, the sadness is starting to hit,” Alia Schmitt, a diversity scholar and student at the University of Idaho, said.
As a diversity scholar recipient, Schmitt and other student recipients receive a financial scholarship that goes toward their tuition.
“I do kind of rely on as many scholarships that I can get,” Schmitt said. “This is money I’ve been relying on since I joined the program.
Schmitt worries that the funding won’t be available anymore.
“I need this support,” Schmitt said.
The Idaho Board of Education unanimously passed the resolution on Wednesday, which could mean DEI scholarships won’t be available to students attending Idaho public universities.
