In 2019, Brittany Kendrick co-founded Hydronomy, a Brooklyn, New York, startup that creates solar-powered water generators to deliver clean water to people who need it the most. The units capture moisture from the air and then filter it, churning out more than 10 gallons of water each day on average. Kendrick says the system ends up being less costly than paying for water from the utility company, and creates no carbon emissions. A goal is to address the environmental racism that black and brown communities in particular suffer.
