Trucking company owner, 71, says he has no plans to retire after winning the lottery [Video]

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG/Gray News) – An Iowa man won half a million dollars thanks to a lucky scratch-off ticket.

According to the Iowa Lottery, David Smutz hit the $500 thousand jackpot while playing the Mega Bucks scratch game.

Smutz told lottery officials that he was on his way to a birthday party with his wife when he found out he had won.

“I was sitting over in the passenger seat, and I was scratching away and all of a sudden, I went, ‘Oh, my!’” Smutz said. “She looked and said, ‘That’s not real!’ And I said, ‘No, it’s real!’”

The 71-year-old owns a trucking company but told the Iowa Lottery that he has no plans of retiring because he still enjoys working.

However, Smutz said he does plan to buy a new car and continue to travel with his wife.

The winning ticket was sold at the Hy-Vee Drugstore on Johnson Avenue.
