Tiny neighborhood bar has big history [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Brass Rail in Downtown Rapid City, has been mixing drinks since 1934.

“It’s crazy to think that this bar has been here, same place, same name, same location for 90 years,” Stephanie Schumacher, co-owner of the Brass Rail, said.

Schumacher’s grandparents bought the business in the mid ’80s.

“They had always been kind of in the industry. They had owned a couple of bars before and a liquor store,” Schumacher said.

The business was passed down to her parents in the ’90s, and now Schumacher and her sister co-own it.

“I think my sister and I both saw how special this place was. It’s really easy to own a business when you love your customers, and you love your staff,” Schumacher said.

The saloon resides in a 130-year-old building, and Schumacher said history makes the Brass Rail special.
