The And Project Lesson 4 Identity in the workplace [Video]

The And Project Lesson 4 Identity in the workplace

The And Project was birthed through the Grand Rapids’ Urban Core Collective (UCC) Transformational Leadership Program which brought together five individuals in a shared pursuit of equity and justice. What started out as a group assignment to bring transformation to our community became a journey of learning, and forming solidarity because of our different yet shared experiences as people of color in our city.

While we all identify as people of color, there are so many other intersections of our identity that shape who we are, how we experience the world, and consequently how the world’s systems and structures treat us. While all five founders are people of color, some of us identify as black and female, black and bi-racial, female and queer, or cisgender male and black. These overlapping pieces of who we are are not represented singularly.

The And Project is the fruit of our shared learning experience, our love letter to diversity and inclusion in our city, with the hope that it will be an accessible starting place for our friends and community to learn about the compounding ways in which identity exists.

#IAMRIVIERABEACH Shed Lang, Owner of Boulevard Subs & More, Ann McNeill Dan Calloway Ep. 116 03/19 by International Mastermind Assoc [Video]

After reading the book ACRES OF DIAMONDS by Russell Conwell, I am convinced we are all leaving the diamond mines in our own backyards as we travel around the world looking for larger diamonds, when in fact the diamonds we seek are found within us and our hometown, from whence we came. Therefore, we are calling the podcast, #IAMRIVIERABEACH. Today's Guest: Shed Lang Mr. Lang moved to Riviera Beach in 1986 and settled in Monroe Heights. Most of his best memories occurred while living in this city. He realized the potential early on and knew He wanted to open a business one day. He didn't know what he wanted to do, but he knew that he wanted to be here. He worked for AT&T for nearly 20 years, and during that time, He had an opportunity to travel and visit many cities across the country. One in particular that fascinated him was Tulsa, Oklahoma. He heard about the 1921 riots that decimated a thriving black community but was hopeful after seeing what that community had done to turn things around. He visited a plaza where it was predominantly black-owned. The parking lot was packed, and the businesses were booming. He thought- ?why not in Riviera Beach??. The demographics were very similar, but we lacked business opportunities. He plans to meet with local black-owned businesses to start the Build Back Black Wall Street Initiative .After retiring in December 2021, He decided to be his own boss. He was done with the corporate world, saying it wasn't for him. So he took his life savings and stepped out on faith, and became the proud owner of Boulevard Subs & More.
