Sunshine Division & Kaiser distribute food boxes on MLK Day [Video]

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – For the fifth year, the Sunshine Division, in partnership with medical provider, Kaiser Permanente, distributed 1,400 drive-up food boxes to families and individuals in need at Oliver Middle School in Portland on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“MLK Day is a day on, not a day off,” said Whitney Pettigrew, the Program Coordinator for KP’s Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity department. “We strongly believe in volunteering and giving back with a week of service.”

The event, made possible by a $95,000 grant from the healthcare company, also included home-delivering 1,000 food boxes with help from nearly 200 volunteer drivers and an additional 1,000 boxes to be distributed to agency partners.

Considering the diverse community needs, separate boxes were created for anyone with dietary restrictions.
