SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – With the change of presidential administration, many possible changes could affect South Dakotas, from the economy to those who gather at family dinners.

South Dakota business owners and leaders in the black, indigenous and people of color communities are working together to understand what immigration and deportation issues could affect the region.

President-elect Donald Trump has doubled down on a promise to launch the largest deportation program in American history.

Community leaders with the South Dakota Dream Coalition are helping those who could be affected.

“If the Trump administration ends a program that is associated with a lawful work permit, all of those people will become automatically unauthorized to work,” said Taneeza Islam with the coalition.

The coalition meets weekly as they help to prepare and educate others on their legal rights at home and work.
