On Aug. 1, UW-Milwaukee police Chief David Salazar abruptly resigned amid an internal investigation. In a scathing statement sent to local media outlets, he accused the university of retaliation. WISN 12 News obtained the investigation report from UWM, which includes a discrimination complaint with Salazar at the center. It starts March 19, when a UWM human resources employee filed a discrimination complaint on behalf of the police department against Salazar. The complainant accuses Salazar of making “insensitive comments or jokes about race, sexual orientation, and religion.” UWM placed Salazar on administrative leave April 26. From there, an investigation by University Equity and Diversity Services interviewed ten people, including Salazar.The investigation report details several instances of Salazar allegedly making offensive comments.
