The media and politics spheres may be abuzz with talk of a general election, but an overwhelming majority of Irish adults are interested in the timing of the vote, according to the latest consumer mindset report from Core.
Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman has floated 29 November as a possible polling day, but the wider public is disinterested in the timing of the election, with 56% describing themselves as unaware that Taoiseach Simon Harris ruled out a vote next month.
A further 26% of the 1,000 respondents to the Core survey said they were neutral, while small minorities were either surprised (5%), contempt (4%), happy (3%), and angry (3%).
Over the past month, Budget 2025 (77%) has been the news story to capture the public’s attention overshadowing the situation in the Middle East as Israel attacked Lebanon and Hezbollah (79%), both of which more than three-quarters of adults were aware.
