Some parents in Plymouth are upset after the school district announced plans to cut funding for bus transportation to Waterbury magnet schools.
PLYMOUTH, Conn. —
Magnet schools tend to have diverse student bodies because there’s so many children that attend out of district, and that’s the case for James and Rachel Estes, who sent their children to Rotella and Waterbury Arts Magnet schools.
“We certainly wanted more diversity for our kids,” said James. “What I found was that my kids from going to the magnet schools, they grew up without some of the hang ups that you’d get when you’re just exclusively in a school where everybody is the same.”
After putting all of their kids in magnet programs, the family says they aren’t sure if the quality of education would be the same anywhere else.
