New Box Elder locally-owned casino adds touches of home [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A new business opened in Box Elder Wednesday (January 15th), and this one is out of the box.

The Fortune Box Casino in Box Elder isn’t typical for a business of that type. For many in Pennington County, it is close to home while also feeling like home. The atmosphere is cozy and features not one but two self-serve coffee and tea stations and very home-like fireplaces.

Owner Alice Speicher said that opening the Fortune Box was an idea that had percolated for a long time. However, it was finally set in motion from a bit of inspiration between herself and her fiancée.

“I’ve been talking about it for ten years now. We sat at one the other day—actually, October 11th—and I decided I wanted a casino,“Speicher said.
