Mizzou to eliminate DEI division, promises continued support | Mid-Missouri News [Video]

COLUMBIA — The University of Missouri says it is focused on the “sustainability” of student supports after the dissolvement of its Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. 

MU chancellor Mun Choi announced Tuesday that the University will eliminate the division tasked to lead DEI initiatives, following state and national political pressures.

“We are seeing the writing on the wall,” Choi told KOMU 8. “There are many DEI programs that have been eliminated because of legislative mandates, and we wanted to be ahead of the curve.”

The announcement comes one week after Maurice Gipson, the Vice Chancellor over the division, shared he will leave the University on Aug. 15.

The University says it will reorganize its efforts to support all students, faculty and staff by moving the supports to different offices on campus.
