ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A historic victory for Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. Not only will she be Dekalb County’s next CEO. She is also the first Black woman in the county’s history to hold that position.
Cochran-Johnson is already laying out what she wants to tackle once she assumes the role of DeKalb County CEO following Tuesday’s victory.
“Getting down our crime scores, changing the trajectory on violence,” Cochran-Johnson said Wednesday.
After Tuesday’s runoff race, she is set to succeed outgoing DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond.
Cochran-Johnson has led the push to improve gas station surveillance cameras within unincorporated Dekalb County to help catch criminals.
The incoming CEO told Atlanta News First she wants to continue to improve public safety, but Cochran-Johnson said she is also committed to addressing the overcrowding at the DeKalb County Animal Shelter
