The Ferrari 250 GTO, produced between 1962 and 1964, is one of the most iconic and rarest cars in history, with only 36 units made. Designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and Sergio Scaglietti, it features a 3.0-liter V12 engine producing around 300 horsepower, allowing it to reach a top speed of 174 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.4 seconds. Its tubular steel chassis and lightweight aluminum body were crafted for aerodynamic efficiency.
Primarily built for racing, the 250 GTO won the International Championship for GT Manufacturers in 1962, 1963, and 1964, and achieved numerous victories in prestigious events like the Le Mans 24 Hours, Tour de France Automobile, and Targa Florio. The car’s design includes a distinctive oval grille and prominent air intakes, with a minimalist, race-focused interior.
The Ferrari 250 GTO is highly valuable, with a 1962 model selling for $48.4 million at auction in 2018 and private sales rumored to reach around $70 million. Celebrated for its blend of performance, design, and racing success, the 250 GTO remains a symbol of automotive excellence and heritage.
