Lessons from a legend: Jesse Lewis celebrates 100th birthday [Video]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Living to 100 years old impressive, even more so if one is in relatively good health. But if you’re Dr. Jesse Lewis, Sr., it is just one of the remarkable things you’ve done in your life.

Lewis, who grew up in Northport where he was raised by his grandmother, served in the army in World War II to earn money that allowed him to earn a degree from Miles College.

Lewis went on to start a string of businesses including what is now Agency 54, one of the country’s oldest Black-owned ad/public relations firms, and the Birmingham Times, which he founded in the early 60s and sold in 2015.

His business success put him in a position to follow his grandmother’s direction to help people.
