Hampton University, Old Dominion to receive part of DoD grant [Video]

The Department of Defense awarded over $50 million to HBCUs and minority-serving institutions (MIs) for the acquisition of research and scientific equipment.

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — The Department of Defense announced a $50.1 million grant for HBCUs and minority-serving institutions (MIs) to receive research and science equipment. And Hampton University and Old Dominion University will be taking a piece of the pie. 

Hampton University’s instrumentation award will have implications for the Army. They will be getting a “transmission electron microscope” and the principal investigator is Aswini Pradhan, an associate professor of physics. 

ODU’s instrumentation award will have implications for the Navy. Their proposal is titled “Enhancing Research and Education Through the Acquisition of a Selective Laser Melting System for Advanced 3D Metal Printing,” and the principal investigator is Hamid Eisazadeh, an engineering professor.
