From hole-in-the-wall, hood joints to luxurious fine dining: KCs first Black Feast Week [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Throughout October, 16 Black-owned restaurants along with a popular, local media outlet, KC Defender, partnered together to promote a culinary celebration among hidden gems.

“Black Feast Week” is the installation of a two-week-long dining experience, geared towards inspiring Kansas City residents to experience new locations.

Separate from other yearly restaurant weeks held in Kansas City, this puts a spotlight directly on black-owned restaurants, food trucks and caterers that have either been open for business for years or newly operated.

According to KC Defender’s Instagram post, this partnership came about due to the recent closures of prominent Black-owned restaurants.

In the past few months, three very popular Black-owned restaurants have closed their doors.

This signaled an action call and business owners decided to take matters into their own hands.

A diverse collection of restaurants is included in the two-week celebration.
