DES MOINES, (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) – Changes could soon be coming to Iowa’s colleges and universities. Republicans in the Iowa House say they’ll be taking a closer look at higher education in the next session.
To do it, they’ve created a new Higher Education Committee. The new committee is being chaired by Representative Taylor Collins, (R-Mediapolis) who worked to limit Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs on college campuses.
Collins says House Republicans plan to make sure Iowa’s students are getting a return on their investment and colleges are spending taxpayer money appropriately.
”We have a workforce shortage so that’s going to be top of mind for all of us when we’re reviewing these academic programs and how our institutions are operating and most importantly as legislators no different than any other government department we have to make sure that Iowa’s taxpayer money is being spent responsibly,” he said.
