Beavertons nonprofit hoop camp kicks off for people of all abilities [Video]

BEAVERTON Ore. (KPTV) – At the 31st tipoff of Hoop Camp in Beaverton this week, everyone and everybody is a winner.

Held at Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District, it’s a basketball clinic that disguises itself in sport when it is really about accountability, responsibility, and inclusion.

“We love new people and familiar faces, we do teamwork. It’s very fun,” Hoop Camp participant Wesley said.

It’s companionship and competition.

Aloha High School alum Steve Garrity is a pioneer in the unified sports world, creating the nonprofit Hoop Camp in 1994 for kids and adults with and without intellectual disabilities.

“Absolutely amazing opportunity and we encourage our unified athletes to participate with us, those without special needs, and a great opportunity to give service and you have the giver and the receiver and both are edified,” said Garrity.
