“Target didn’t understand that its decision was not only offensive, but it’s bad for business,” said Levy-Armstrong.
MINNEAPOLIS — Activists gathered in front of Target headquarters in Minneapolis Thursday afternoon, calling for a boycott after Target said it would roll back Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
“We are here today to raise our voices in opposition to target corporations decision that they announced just last week to roll back their diversity equity and inclusion initiatives, policies and investments,” said Nekima Levy Armstrong, the founder of Racial Justice Network.
Armstrong said Target has been praised in the past for its inclusion policy, and doesn’t deserve Minnesota’s money now that it is pulling away.
President Trump’s executive order to dismantle federal DEI programs said it “divided Americans by race.”
That same week, Target decided it would step away from those programs.
