BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia is calling on Governor Patrick Morrisey to repeal one of his recent executive orders.
The ACLU is demanding the repeal of Executive Order No. 3-25, which commands the termination of DEI, or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives.
According to ACLU officials, the order is too broadly written, and they said it could infringe on the free speech rights of college educators and others.
Officials said the order could also prohibit professors from discussing arguments both for and against a wide range of topics, from the role of women in military combat to race reparations.
According to the ACLU, the governor’s office risks litigation against the state if it does not act quickly to correct the order.
