Longtime WOWT anchor John Knicely announces his retirement from television [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Longtime First Alert 6 anchor and Nebraska broadcasting icon John Knicely has announced his plan to retire.

After a stellar career as Omaha’s Main News Anchor, John will sign off from the First Alert 6 anchor desk on Wednesday, March 12.

“Over 50 years ago, my thoughts in college were to probably go to law school. But a call from my journalism professor about a weekend sports job at Channel 6 changed all that,” John said. “It was a blessing then and that has continued through more than five decades in broadcasting. It’s been a privilege that has led to many opportunities for me and my wife Sue to serve and be involved in such a great community. Our sincere thanks!”

John recently celebrated his 50th Anniversary working in television. Of those 50 years, 40 have been with WOWT, in Omaha.
