TV9 Rewind: Iowa retires Michelle Ice Edwards’ No. 30 jersey [Video]

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – AP Female Athlete of the Year. Unanimous First-Team All-American. WNBA Rookie of the Year. Caitlin Clark needs a large mantle to display all the trophies and honors she’s received in her relatively young basketball career.

On February 2, she’ll have her No. 22 jersey forever memorialized in the rafters at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. But she’s not the first former Iowa women’s basketball player to have their jersey retired. That honor belongs to Michelle ‘Ice’ Edwards who suited up for the Hawkeyes from 1984 to 1988. Former TV9 Sports Director John Campbell looked back at her career in 2020 ahead of a different jersey retirement ceremony.

During Edwards’ time in the black and gold, she was named the WBCA National Player of the Year, Big Ten Player of the Year and three times led the Hawkeyes in scoring and assists.
