BOISE, Idaho — Proposed legislation Thursday that would ban diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) offices on public universities and redirect those funds to student scholarships.
Sen. Ben Toews of Cour d’ Alene presented his proposal to the state’s DEI task force, where he serves as a member.
The bill he would formally introduce at a later date would prohibit DEI offices on public universities and eliminate mandatory DEI-focused coursework for students.
“No institutions of higher education in the state of Idaho, or any employee, appointee or committee acting on behalf of an institution of higher education shall… (a) establish, sustain, support, or staff a diversity, equity, and inclusion office or department, nor higher an individual to serve as a diversity, equity and inclusion …
