WELL, AS MANY COMMEMORATED AND HONORED OUR VETERANS TODAY, MANY MEMBERS OF THE VFW TONIGHT FACE A GROWING CONCERN. THEIR ENROLLMENT NUMBERS ARE DECLINING NATIONWIDE AND HERE AT HOME. AND THERE’S LIKELY SEVERAL REASONS FOR THE NUMBERS TO BE TICKING DOWNWARD. WVTM 13 S JARVIS ROBERTSON SPENT TONIGHT SPEAKING WITH SOME LOCAL VFW MEMBERS ABOUT THE CHALLENGES THEY’RE FACING. WHEN I FIRST JOINED, WE HAD OVER 500 MEMBERS. NOW WE’RE DOWN TO LESS THAN 250. WALTER TURNER HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST IN TUSCALOOSA FOR 26 YEARS. HE’S SEEN FIRSTHAND HOW THE MEMBERSHIP IS DECLINING.
