Beloved electronics stores closing doors after 70 years [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Christy Christopherson opened Chris Supply Company in 1954. Charles Brown and Harvey Hensley bought the hardware store for electronics in 1967. The pair focused on selling audio, television, and appliance parts, and when the need for their services grew, they expanded to Gillette, Wyoming. They sold the store to their sons, Rick Brown and Don Harvey, in 1984.

With the change in ownership came the change in product offerings. The focus changed to computers, electronics, and more. Brown became the sole owner in 2008 after Harvey retired.

When the coal industry began to downsize, Brown made the decision to close the Gillette store in 2017 but continued to serve the Wyoming customers with direct shipping and deliveries occasionally. Now, it’s time for Brown to retire.

He got teary as he reminisced on his time working at the store.
