Michigan’s Black Leadership Advisory Council hosts Flint roundtable for 2024 report | Local [Video]

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – The Michigan Black Leadership Advisory Council (BLAC) hosted a roundtable Tuesday in Flint focusing on their 2024 report.

The report includes eight proposals or recommendations to help remove barriers for black and brown families in communities like Flint, building a stronger, more inclusive state.

The proposals include advancing education, community safety, pay equity, talent retention, mental health representation and the arts, among others that will go before Governor Gretchen Whitmer this year.

This is the second report for BLAC, which is an advisory council started by the governor during the pandemic.

The Advisory Council is the first effort by the state to solely advocate for black in brown Michiganders.

“We wanted to have a council that’s geographically diverse, age diverse, experienced diverse,” said Deputy Director of Prosperity for LEO and BLAC Designee Kim Trent.
