Portions of 7th street to be closed for about a week [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Rapid City officials are giving one downtown road a facelift next week with Seventh Street set to be closed until next Wednesday.

Starting this Friday, the portion of Seventh Street south of the railroad tracks to Saint Joseph Street will be closed for repaving.

City Engineer Roger Hall says the road has been patched many times over the years and it was time to refresh the pavement altogether.

With summer nights going on next week city officials reached out to both business owners along the stretch of road and organizers of summer nights to ensure this would not impede the event. Hall says any spaces on the road being used for summer nights will still be accessible during the event.

Additionally, a new technique is being used to pave these sections of road and if it goes well, it could be implemented in larger areas.
