Barbara Furlow-Smiles, a former Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) executive at Facebook, now Meta, and Nike, was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison on Friday, with a recommendation to be evaluated for participation in the RDAP (Residential Drug Abuse Program).

The sentencing comes after Furlow-Smiles was found guilty of multiple counts of wire fraud and embezzlement.

In district court documents viewed by Newsweek, the court made recommendations to the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) that Furlow-Smiles be incarcerated in or near Newburgh, Orange County, New York, and that she be evaluated for participation in the RDAP program. RDAP is the BOP’s most intensive treatment program for substance abuse rehabilitation.

According to Federal Prison Time:

“Federal law allows the BOP to reduce the sentences of non-violent offenders who complete the RDAP program by up to one year. The RDAP program is voluntary and takes 500-hours, nine- to twelve-months to complete.”
