50 Years of Fish: Quality and Loyalty Fuel Kossuth Fish Market’s Longevity | Local [Video]

UTICA, N.Y. — This Christmas season is unlike any other at Kossuth Fish Market.

“It’s my 50 years anniversary and I have to say that is not an easy thing to reach that kind of anniversary, especially in business,” said owner, Vito Affatigato.

Black and gold decorations commemorate the milestone.

These days, the market is only open one month a year, at Christmas.

It’s about as close to retirement as the owner can bring himself.

“One particular customer told me, Vito, my mother, she marked on the calendar when you were going to be here. Things like this make me come back and open up, even though I’m supposed to be retired,” said Affatigato.

For many Italians, the big holiday meal is Christmas Eve, the feast of the seven fishes. The market is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.

They close for the season, Jan. 3.

You can call in Christmas orders until Dec. 23, even for fried fish.
