ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) – Two men posing as utility workers are accused of killing a 72-year-old homeowner outside Detroit.
Authorities are searching for the suspects seen on the man’s Ring doorbell.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says the men displayed a placard for the utility company on their pickup truck and claimed they were investigating a gas leak.
The men first showed up at the Rochester Hills home on Thursday, then again on Friday.
Once they got inside, the sheriff’s office says the suspects killed the man and restrained his wife with duct tape.
It’s believed the victim — a local business owner — was targeted.
The man’s cause of death was still being determined due to the extent of his injuries and the amount of blood found at the scene.
His identity was not immediately released by authorities.
The man’s wife was taken to the hospital and is recovering.
